Founded in 1772 by Philippe Clicquot, husband of Madam Clicquot, Veuve Clicquot is one of the world’s largest Champagne
houses based in Reim, France. Madam Clicquot, also known as the Grand Dame of Champagne, took over the house when
Philippe passed and is credited for creating the very first recorded vintage champagne line in 1810 – released under Madam
Clicquot’s newly established brand name; Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin. Clicquot also invented the riddling table process in
relation to clarifying champagne and developed the first known blended rose variation; a process of marrying still red and white
wines together which continues to be used by a majority of champagne producers across the globe. This highly-established
brand played a key role in introducing champagne to high society and royalty throughout Europe, including Imperial Russia at
the time – and has continued this legacy of excellence for over 250 years.
